Area Activities
There are many local activities to enjoy in North Central
Idaho ranging from big game hunting to wildlife-viewing in
all seasons of the year. Spring is wonderful time for
hiking, back packing, mountain biking and riding your ATV
into the wilderness to see the beautiful wildflowers in
bloom, to hunt for mushrooms, find a local hot spring to
soak in or just sit back and watch the baby critters. Take a
scenic drive on US Highway 95 to see the bright yellow
canola fields in bloom and the beautiful periwinkle blue
Camas flower that cover the prairie or drop down to the
Salmon River and watch the jet boat races. Summer sports
range from swimming, floating, whitewater rafting, hiking,
back packing, camping, horseback riding, fishing, mountain
biking, ATV riding and wildlife viewing along the way or
maybe golfing at one of the local courses. Fall and Winter
sports include skiing, snow tubing, cross country skiing,
snowmobiling and snowshoeing on the wintry slopes. The four
seasons create an ever changing landscape for viewing. If
hunting is your sport, try your spot at big game hunting of
the ‘nation’s largest elk herd’ or maybe mule or whitetail
deer, black bear, cougar, wild turkeys, ducks, pheasant or
even a grouse by yourself or with a guide.
Maybe fishing
is what you’re looking for; well we have it for you. The
best steelhead fishing in the western United States is on
the Clearwater River beginning in September. The average
steelhead taken from the Clearwater River is 12 to 14 pounds
with the 20 plus pounders abundant. The best Spring
Chinook Salmon fishing in the United States is from May 5 to
the end of June and possibly beyond. The average Spring
Chinook Salmon taken from the Clearwater River is about 20
pounds with 30+ pounders retrievable. The Clearwater, Snake
and Salmon rivers are all well known for their game fish
including bass and many bred of trout and their experienced
outfitters. There are many self-guided driving tours you
can take to see the country and its history ranging from 25
to 120 miles. Just jump in your car (remember to fill up
with gas prior to leaving due to many miles between gas
stations) and enjoy the scenery and wildlife. If driving is
not your cup of tea, how about a jet boat tour in Hells
Canyon? North Central Idaho, where life is more about the
outdoors, less noise, no traffic, few crowds, and bountiful
views that will capture your heart and fill your eyes with
the majesty of the west. |
